The college offers B.F.A., M.A. and M.F.A. degrees in printmaking at SCAD-Atlanta through the School of Fine Arts. A minor in printmaking is offered at both SCAD-Atlanta and SCAD-Savannah.
Printmakers, as artists of the 21st century, have extensive possibilities to contribute to a wide range of professions related to printmaking. Graphic design, fibers, painting, photography, film and more are closely linked to this tradition.
The SCAD printmaking program balances critical thinking, interdisciplinary study and applications of technology with traditional and contemporary practices.
Media-specific printmaking classes include techniques such as etching, lithography, relief printmaking and serigraphy, as well as photographic computer applications for printmaking.
Studios and equipment are provided for beginning, intermediate and advanced level printmaking courses in lithography and monotype, etching and gravure, letterpress and book arts, darkroom and exposure work, and computer labs. The shop specializes in low toxicity and nontoxic printmaking techniques.
Through the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Printmaking, students have the opportunity to collaborate with visiting artists and work alongside faculty to learn the art of collaborative printmaking. Past guest artists include Alexi Natchev, Glenn Vilppu, Marshall Arisman, Jeffrey Sippel and Arthur Secunda.
